Richard’s Excellent Adventures at The National Publicity Summit, NYC

I’ve just had one of the most unique experiences of my life and I want to share with you about it. This past week I spent 3 days in New York City “pitching” the reasons why Baby Boomers should be worried, and the solutions we are bringing them, to 70 different TV and radio show producers and editors from national magazines around the country. I had 2-1/2 minutes to get my “hook” and talking points across to them. Those who were Baby Boomers got it immediately, and I’m sure they’ll be going to the BBRC site www.mybbrc.com and taking the Ten Minute Retirement Quiz, even if we were not a good fit for their show or publication (which, amazingly enough, was not the case too often).

I spoke to producers, editors and writers from the CBS Early Show, The View, ABC News, 20/20, The 700 Club, the Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy radio show, Woman’s Day, Woman’s World, FirstWives.com, Time Magazine, Regis and Kelly (which I will never get on, not their thing), Good Housekeeping, The New York Times, and the list goes on and on. It was fun! It was educational! It was exhilarating! It was exhausting!

You’ve never seen anything like this: on one side, 100 or so authors, inventors, and unique, lively personalities with amazing stories and accomplishments, all learning the secrets to how to get great media coverage and build their own media empire. On the other side, 120 media representatives eagerly looking for new stories, angles, and personalities to bring to their audiences.

And what a diverse collection–I spoke to all of them about the BBRC, the Baby Boomers Retirement Club, www.mybbrc.com, and the free 10 Minute Retirement Plan, but in ways and with angles that fit their audience–why women need to be prepared because they outlive husbands (did you know more than 51% of women over 20 in the U.S. are not in a married relationship, i.e., no husband? You bet they need to prepare for their later years).

And the issues of health, preventing medical calamities, caring for aging parents, retiring overseas, 5 simple steps to retire rich even if you’re starting late–these were all discussed from the standpoint of tailoring a story to their formats and audiences.

And I’ve already been booked on a number of shows, so I’ll keep you informed on the where and whens. The first one is on Thursday April 3 live from 8:00pm to 9:30 pm, a radio call-in show (the kind I love).

And I don’t want to forget the wonderful group of people who were my fellow attendees, who have such brilliant skills and mastery of subjects from natural healing, to reverse mortgages, to learning how to play the piano in minutes, to stress management–so many of them directly relevant to the Baby Boomers and our BBRC members. Doctors, Ph.D’s, Dentists, all with a passion and an overwhelming desire to bring something needed to the world

Many of them were fascinated by the BBRC, and they offered to give our members special opportunities to learn and participate in their expertise. I’ll be bringing you their valuable insights soon as free bonuses, free educational teleseminars (only Gold and Platinum BBRC members can register for these), and links within related resources on the BBRC member site.

The BBRC got a lot of great exposure and a lot of great response at the National Publicity Summit this past week–and I learned a lot about what today’s media needs, and how to work with them effectively–all thanks to Steve and Bill Harrison, two brothers who organize this event and do a lot of other great things in the worlds of media, authors, and publicity. Thanks again guys.

Richard
